About me

My name’s Freddie (they/them) and I’m a queer, trans, autistic person who’s been living in Brighton for the last 10 years. I was on a bit of a different life path before I had a big depression that caused to me re-evaluate what I was doing with my life. While I was in this dip I started cutting my partner’s hair, and then I started cutting my friend’s hair and then I started cutting my friend’s friend’s hair and I realised that cutting hair was my absolute favourite thing to do. It was at this point that I started the journey of becoming qualified and taking my passion/obsession seriously. I am now fully qualified.
It feels a bit ironic when I think about it because I HATE getting my hair cut. I’ve ALWAYS HATED getting my hair cut. I hate that overwhelming feeling when I walk into a salon and am directed to that chair where I have to sit in front of a mirror and have a stranger touch me. I hate how loud the music is. I hate that I don’t know the social rules of a salon or barbershop. I hate the sound of the snip snip next to my ear and the feeling of hair falling onto me. I hate it all and I know I’m not the only one!
I know that a lot of queer people, trans people, fat people, neuro-divergent people, disabled people and people of colour struggle with getting their hair cut. This is why I want to offer a hair service that’s orientated around the needs of each individual. And I want it to be as accessible as possible, so if you don’t want to chat during the service, thats fine! You can be in charge of if you want to listen to music, or watch tv, or play a game, or take breaks, or whatever you need for it to be a comfortable experience.
My long-term goal is to have my own little salon space that feels like visiting a friend’s house. I want to provide the option to cover mirrors if they aren’t your thing, I want the lighting to not be so offensively bright, and I want the seat to be fat friendly. In the meantime, before I achieve this queer utopic dream, I am working out of a converted caravan and travelling to people’s houses and cutting hair in people’s own homes.
So if any of this appeals to you then please get in touch!
