Brighton-based mobile barber for neuro-divergent, disabled, queer and trans folk

What accessibility needs can you cater for?

It’s hard to answer this question as everyone’s access needs are very different. I tend to work out of client’s own homes which means people have more agency in their surroundings. I’m happy to take breaks during the cut for you to move around, I can use scissors instead of clippers, I clean up after myself before I leave. I am always working towards making this as an accessible service as possible so please let me know any ways that I can make it more accessible.

There is some more access info regarding my own personal salon space in the Location tab on this website.

Do you offer any discounted prices?

It feels very important to me to not turn anyone away for a lack of funds so please get in contact and we can sort something out.

What are your chair measurements?

The main chair that I use is 18 inches by 16 inches and is curved rather than flat. It’s not a proper salon chair so it can be swapped out for other chairs if it’s not big or comfortable enough. There’s absolutely no shame in asking for a different chair, the world is disgustingly fatphobic and everyone should be able to sit in a chair comfortably.

Why are your appointments long?

There are a few reasons for this. I like to make sure we can have a proper consultation before I start the service so that I have a really good idea of what it is you want and I like to have some time at the end of the service to take some photos and do any tweaks that you might want being made. There are a lot of barbershops out there that will get you in and out in 20 minutes and there’s a lot of value in that, but I also think there’s value in taking time and having a more connected experience with my client. The service that I am offering is one that feels personalised to each client and I also want to make sure my work is up to a really good standard.
If you would rather have a quick in and out service, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can sort something out.

What do you do with the photos you take of the service?

That’s really up to you! I love to have photos that I can post on Instagram as it helps to advertise my business and attracts more clients but not everyone feels comfortable with that. I like to have photos of my work as it helps me to constantly improve and gives me something to look back on if you regularly want the same haircut or style so if you don’t mind your picture being taken but don’t want it to be put online, that’s okay. And it’s also okay if you’d rather not have photos taken at all. As I keep stating, I want this service to be as comfortable for the client as possible and I don’t want anyone to feel pressured into having their picture taken.

Do you cut children’s hair?

Yes! The pricing, however, will be the same as an adult haircut and the same questions around access needs will be asked.

Why do you wear gloves?

This feels like an embarassing thing to admit as a barber but I really struggle with touch. For me, wearing gloves allows me to touch people without feeling anxious. The gloves that I use are Nitrile powder free single use gloves. These gloves then get recylced through TerraCycle and turned back into new gloves. Recylcing the single use gloves properly is suprisingly more environmentally friendly than the biodegradable ones! Please let me know if you have any allergies to nitrile.

Can i watch tv during my appointment?

Of course! The appointment is yours to do whatever you like. There will be times when I’ll have to stand in front of you and obviously I advise you not to do anything that may involve a lot of moving your head but other than that you’re free to do what you like. I’ve even had a few clients fall asleep in the chair during the service which I take as a compliment!

What do I need to provide for a mobile appointment?

If you’re appointment is only for a haircut then the only two things you need to provide are:
1) somewhere comfortable for you to sit with space for me to be able to walk around you
2) an accessible plug socket – though I do bring an extention lead with me in case the socket isn’t close enough.
If your appointment is for any bleaching or dyeing, then please reach out and I can more fully explain what will need to be provided.
